About Mya

With the cost of a transplant often exceeding $500,000, many transplant families are unable to shoulder the financial burden of such a procedure. The Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) is a national charity dedicated to organizing and guiding communities in raising funds for transplant-related expenses. In Tampa, volunteers are raising funds for COTA in honor of transplant patients like local girl, Mya Arsenault.

Mya was born in 2013 premature with a birth defect called gastroschisis, she went into surgery immediately after birth at only 4lbs she spent the first couple months of her life in St. Joseph's Women's Hospital NICU in Tampa,Florida. Since then she was diagnosed with Short Gut Syndrome and is in and out of St. Joseph's Children's Hospital frequently undergoing surgeries and battling the complications of her disease. Mya is now 3 years old and dependent on TPN 17 hours a day through a central line for her nourishment. The doctors at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida, have recommended a life-saving intestinal transplant. An estimated $50,000 is being raised by Tampa volunteers.
